Chilton’s Big Fat Quiz Success

Who’s got the answers? Children were pitted against their parents in a quiz challenge at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate.
The school’s inaugural Big Fat Quiz of the Year saw parents from Year4 and Year 5 invited to battle it out with their children who were joined by other pupils from the same house to make a team of up to six participants.
A diverse range of questions focussed on learning from the thematic curriculum in the last school year and covered subjects including the water cycle, volcanos and earthquakes, space, Egyptians, Ancient Greece, and the Anglo Saxons.
Questions were all multiple choice and the teams were able to give their answers via computer tablet.
Deputy head of School Hannah Cheshire said: “Our first ever big quiz with parents and pupils on opposite teams was a great success.
“Low stakes multiple choice quizzes can be a powerful learning tool to helping teachers to understand what information the children have retained and any information they may need to re-visit. The children also take a lot of enjoyment from taking part in fun quizzes.
“Thanks go to our question setters Humanities lead Mr Wheeler, Science lead Miss Isaac and Design and Technology lead Miss Hall.
“The quiz was popular and well-attended, and - look away parents - the children were victorious in both Year 4 and Year 5. Better luck next time parents.”
Chilton Primary School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Upton Junior School in Broadstairs and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
