Police Dogs On Paw Patrol at RAPS

Police dogs Ciara and Roxy were put through their paces when they visited little children at Ramsgate Arts Primary.
Along with handler PC Barnes, they demonstrated how they use their senses for a variety of tasks such as helping track down missing property or find lost people.

It was all part of the Early Years topic People, Heroes and the World where pupils are learning about different real-life heroes who help us in the community, including police officers, and how they help to keep people safe.
In class the children had been learning about what police officers do, why they wear uniforms, how we can contact them in an emergency, and how animals such as police dogs can also help the police.
During the visit, PC Barnes spoke to the children about his role as a police officer and how he helps in the community. As a bonus, he also brought his police dogs with him, which the children loved.

Pupil reactions included ‘the police help keep everyone safe’, ‘I didn't know police dogs had jobs too’, ‘I learned that police officers are kind and help everyone’, and ‘the police are heroes because they keep us safe’.
The EYFS team said: “The children were really excited to meet PC Barnes. We are very lucky that he gave up his own time to come and speak to us about how he supports our community.
“The pupils were very happy to see him and he talked to them all about his uniform and how his role in the community. They also loved getting special stickers to say they had a special visit from PC Barnes.
“It was a fantastic experience for the children and a lovely way to help them understand more about the important work police officers do for our community.”
Head of School Nick Budge said: “This was real treat for our young pupils. They learnt a great deal from their friendly chat with PC Barnes and were entranced at how he and the superbly trained and clever dogs work so well together.
“Visits into school such as this not only enhance curriculum topics but they also are vital as they help broaden life learning skills.”
