Survival Challenge Tests RAPS’ Team Skills

A special survival challenge saw children from Ramsgate Arts Primary test their skills, determination and initiative.
In the middle of Betteshanger Country Park, the Year 4 team were tasked to build their own shelters from available materials.

The group quickly discovered that the strongest shelters started with a sturdy triangular-shaped frame made from thick, strong branches before adding smaller sticks and leaves for protection.
Year 4 teachers Naomi Millidine and Claire O’Flaherty explained: “Teamwork, communication and problem-solving were all essential as the pupils worked together to improve their designs.

“After the shelter-building task, they had plenty of time to explore the Forest School area. The children loved playing on the swings, creating imaginative meals in the mud kitchen, building dens and playing hide and seek together.
“It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the outdoors, showing creativity and working so well with their friends.
“Before heading home, the group squeezed in a quick play at the fantastic adventure playground, which was the perfect way to end a brilliant day. It was a memorable trip filled with teamwork, resilience, outdoor learning and lots of smiles.”
Head of School Nick Budge added: “It was a very hot day to face such a challenge but the shade under the trees kept the explorers cool as they set about their tasks completely focused on the job in hand.
“It was a super achievement and involved strong communication skills and problem-solving as well as creativity and persistence which are important traits to possess as part of their personal development.”
